In Pensacola, Florida, a kitten named Vinny captured hearts before he even opened his eyes to a real home. At just two to three weeks old, he was found wandering the streets after suffering a vicious animal attack. With deep cuts, infected wounds, and a severely damaged ear, Vinny’s future looked uncertain. But fate had other plans.

A Rescue That Changed Everything
Vinny was discovered by the son of a local shelter board member. Despite his injuries, the tiny black kitten purred and approached his rescuer without fear. Recognizing the urgent need for care, the good Samaritan rushed Vinny to a nearby clinic. There, veterinary staff worked to save his life and ultimately his ear had to be removed due to infection.

Healing After Trauma: Two Surgeries and Endless Hope
Vinny underwent two surgeries: the first to remove his damaged ear and canal, and the second to clean lingering infection. Although his appearance changed, his spirit never did. Throughout the ordeal, Vinny remained sweet and affectionate earning the nickname “Van Gogh” after the famous one-eared artist.

Finding Comfort in a Foster Home
After surgery, Vinny was placed with a foster mom. But with a growing number of bottle-fed kittens in her care, she soon felt overwhelmed. That’s when Liz an animal hospital employee and wife of a man named Colin stepped in to help. Liz agreed to foster Vinny temporarily, but he quickly became much more than just a visitor.

A Foster Fail That Turned Into Forever
From the moment Vinny arrived, he won hearts. His friendly, outgoing personality made it impossible not to fall in love. By New Year’s Eve 2019, Liz and Colin had made it official they adopted the one-eared kitten who had already taken over their hearts and home.

A Thriving Life With No Limitations
Now nearly eight months old, Vinny is a playful, energetic companion who enjoys lounging in the sun, chasing strings, and surveying the world from his favorite perch. Despite missing an ear, his hearing remains sharp and his joy infectious.
“We’ve had so many people ask if his hearing is impacted,” says Colin. “But truthfully, there’s no difference. Cats like Vinny aren’t broken they’re just as amazing, sometimes even more so.”

Redefining Beauty and Worth
Vinny’s story challenges assumptions about what makes a pet adoptable. His unique look only adds to his charm. “We didn’t know we needed a one-eared kitten,” Colin reflects. “But now, we can’t imagine life without him.”
